Bonus Tip: Choosing The Right Size For Your Chandelier
To Find The Ideal Size: Consider the size of your light and the clearance that will be left underneath it. Using your tape measure, find the total width of your dining table, then subtract one foot. For example, if your dining table is 42” wide, find a chandelier that is about 30” wide. This will please the eye and help you and your guests avoid bumping into it every time they stand or sit.
To Find The Ideal Height: As dazzling as chandeliers are, it’s a bad thing to literally blind your guests from the glare of a low-hanging chandelier.
As a rule be sure there is about 30″ to 36” from the bottom of your light to the tabletop from an 8 foot ceiling. Add 3 inches to the height of your light for each additional foot of ceiling height. This means that a light in a 10-foot ceiling should hang down 36″ to 42”.
